Being retired

In old doordharshan (tamil) dramas and in some movies, they would show, When a person is being retired they will arrange a function. He would be given a lot of gifts, a "malar maalai", "poongothu" etc and many would speak about him.

In spite of all these happening, that person would be very sad. At those times, i thought why they are showing him as sad guy and it looked very silly to me !!!

But now, after working in a company for close to four years and got moved out, I can feel those feelings of retired men. It was another college life !!! Except that you have another job in your hand, You are going to be away from your close friends of your old office, your bay and finally your office and the location.

Pokkiri: Tamil Movie

I know this is going to be very late review of Pokkiri (To be exact, it is not review but just my opinion).

When i saw the above still, i thought movie with vijay and prabhudeva is going to rock. Adding to this during audio release, a still with child on his lap hearing music added even more expectation.

Ok now to the review. Please carry a new pack of Zandu Balm when you are going for the movie. This is a total let down from vijay and from prabhudeva too. Even though vijay dances well, choreography is very ordinary. Watch the dole dole song from telugu and from tamil and tell me your opinion (esp about asin...Thaangala). Vadivelu is good only at two places even though he comes through out the movie (other places he is maranakadi). Only "aruthal" of the movie is prakash raj (he is given the chance of acting in only one place..so mind that).

P.S: Just check pokkiri :) Better it would have not come and getting released soon.

Missed Call

Imagine your are using a bulkier telephone and for some reasons you changed it to a lighter one. In one fine morning, you are eating in your office canteen alone (usually with friends) with that lighter phone. Also you are expecting an important call.

You start eating and turns aside (towards the Idli-Vada queue ). You are seeing a pretty looking gal standing in the queue. Then you continue your eating with your focus only on the food. After few seconds, you raise your head and she sits exactly opposite to you !!! and no body else is in your table !!! Woooo.....

Now you start eating your food and occasionally raising your head. You got a feeling that she also does the same :). You almost finish your food but still you are trying to delay it. At this time, she gets a missed call, she turns back and waves her hand. 'He' comes to your table and both of them sit closely and start their 'kadalai'.

Suddenly, you now got "Gnyanothayam" and check your mobile, it shows "1 Missed Call" !!!

is it "Missed Call" or "Missed Gal" ? :)

Che enna kodumai ithu....

P.S: Ithu enakku nadakkalai. This is purely an imagination.

Indian Railways

I have traveled recently in Mayiladuthurai - Mysore Express. I boarded at Trichy. It was late by 1 hour. Initially i thought that train will reach Bangalore one hour late. But to my surprise it reached at 5:00 AM in the morning one hour ahead of schedule !!!. Indian Railways-kku enachchu!!!
But reaching Bangalore at 5:00 AM is something you dont want.

Same case with the return direction. How much ever late it is at Bangalore, it will reach Trichy at 3:30AM in the morning (the scheduled time is 4:00 AM). Be it Trichy or Some other city, you dont want to reach any city that early in the morning.

Dear Indian Railways when will you reach the city on time?

Solution to these problem is to have some Alarm & Display in each coach to tell about the Station, City outside. Sure IR is one of the greatest asset of india, hope they will provide these facilities also.

Guru Movie Review - Tamil

Somewhere in Maniratnam had been asked "why are you dubbing this in Tamil?", For that Mani replied, Guru Story will fit in Tamil movie category also. Thats true.

Guru - Gurukanth Desigan is a story of ordinary man turning in to successful buisness man

Plus: Maniratnam, A R Rehman, Rajiv Menon, Abhishek, Madhavan
Minus: Climax, Unnecessary songs towards the end of the movie, Too much concentration on Ash-Abhi romance in the second half which is dragging.

Mallika is sizzling in the item number. Aishwarya rai - acting wise she is good but look wise she is a looser. Vidyabalan is wasted. May be mani would have used vidya to add more star attraction for the movie. I have heard a lot of funny things about mithun previously but here he is too good.

Except for the climax the movie is good. May be the hype they are creating just before the climax is the reason for not liking the climax, i think (Abhishek telling vanakkam (his lips says namaste) simply creates much hype and that 4.5 minutes of climax talk is not imppressive)

The way the movie opens (abhishek looking back and speaking) and ending in the same area with lot of people is amazing. Rajiv menon is too good there and in the mayya mayya song (Tamil version - i forgot) and in many places. Mentioning those will be spoiler.

The ideas which Gurukant Desai uses are pretty normal (many films (particularly in tamil) had shown that already). Mani could have used better ideas. But that would made the movie more of fantasy type than lively. Dont know why mani had chose to do a lively movie for such story line !!!. Each scene is very lively. Be it in Turkey land, Younger Days of Guru, His middle life and Old age. All are very well taken.

Madhavan(as a honest reporter) has regained his Alaipayuthey look. Definitely gals are going to gaga behind him once again if he does a Hero with this look.

As usual Vairamuthu is great and editing is also good with no confusions.

Last but not least, the dubbing done by Surya, wow amazing. I wish Mani would have taken this story in tamil too with Surya as Guru. Well done Surya!!!

Final word: Guru would have been better with better climax and comparing with Guru with its contemporary movies both in Hindi and Tamil, it is lot better. Worth to watch it in theater.

Heard that Sivaji is also about a simple man with a single rupee becoming millionaire. Let us see how shankar and superstar does that.

Happy Pongal

Pongal, the harvest festival is one of the widely celebrated festival in Tamilnadu and in other parts of India under the different names (in Sanskrit, it is Makara Sankaranti). It is festival for farmers and celebrated by others to acknowledge the help of farmers to the society.

It is actually a three day celebration. The day before to Pongal is called Boghi, which is a thanks giving day for Indira, the king of clouds. On Pongal or Makara sankaranthi day, the Sun and Earth will be worshiped. Brothers will give gifts to their sisters. Next day, Mattu Pongal or Kaanum Pongal is celebrated as thanks giving day for bull. In south india especially in Tamilnadu, the sisters will worship to gods for the welfare of their brothers (In north india, holi is celberated for the same purpose. On the day of Holi, in Tamil nadu, wife's will pray to god for the welfare of their husbands, it is called as karadayan nonbu which is related to sathyavan & savithri story).

On Mattu pongal, famous Jallikattu (the play where youths will try to control the bulls) will happen in the places of Trichy, Madurai and Tanjavur. Alanganallur near Madurai is one of the famous places where the play of Jallikattu will happen yearly.

This time there is no holiday for us :( :(. Missing all these celebrations, i will be sitting in front of my computer in office.

Jeans Jacket

Some time back i wanted to buy Jeans Jacket. I thought of buying it in Trichy to save some cost . At that time i had plans to Madurai for visiting Sri Meenakshi Amman temple.

Madurai episode:

We went to Madurai, finished darshan and our lunch. Opposite to the hotel where we took our lunch, there was a big clothing showroom (Kishkintha). I visited there and asked for Jeans Jacket.

The person who is directing the people to various sections asked "thirumba sollunga thambi " and i repeated.

He didn't understand and called another guy, he also confused. After some passings, finally a person understood and brought the Jeans Jacket. At this time we were in first floor (males ready made section) and was seeing various jackets in the shop.

Now our first guy, came to first floor, saw me and came near to me. He saw the Jeans Jacket, laughed and in madurai slang told me,
"Thambi itha poi...itha poi...hahah....itha thaan ketteengala? Saakku Melanginu solli irukkalmla, eduththu koduthirupomla"
(Melangi - Coat, Sakku - Made of jute usually to carry things which will be a tough cloth)

I got reminded of Vijayakanth comedy (the only comedy made by our captain): Thambi itha poi...hahah... pathinettavathu padichirukeenga..., atha solratha vittutu M.Scnnu Kittu"

Avvalavu thaan, anga nikkama appadiye bus pidichchu I came to Trichy.

Trichy episode:

Whoever visited Trichy must heard about Sarathas (they are advertising that it is in Chennai also, i need to use google map to find it out in Chennai).

I went there with my friend and asked the guy who is directing the people to various sections "Sir Jeans Jacket entha section-la irukkum", I got the reply in Kumbakonam slang, "Thambi Jeans-a payaluva poduvanuva, Jocket-ta Pombalainga Poduvanga, athu enna Jeans Jockettnnu, appadi onnum illaye thambi".

Americkka Mappillai

Tamil (Indian) cinema kathai-la itha maathavey maatangala?

Day before yesterday, I happen to see Dhanush, Shriya, Prakashraj starrer Thiruvilayadal Arambam( Movie was ok type) in my friend's house.

In the climax Dhanush marries Shriya and Prakashraj who opposes initially supports in the climax scene. It is a happy ending for the movie for all( us the audience, Dhanush, Shriya, Prakashraj) except for that americkka mappillai.

Tamil cinema-la vara intha character rombave pavam. Ellam ready-a irukkum, kadaisi nerathula "Niruthunga"-nu oru kural varum. Avlo thaan. Marriage stopped. This character will be gaalified. Immediately after a brief argument, marriage will progress but without this guy. So sad!!!

Ambani mathiri irukka vendiavana,
Amboni mathiri irukka vachiduranga.

So conclusion from this logic of Tamil cinema is,
Those who are willing to travel to America (to get H1B, refer this post), get marry and then travel. Those who are in America already, do get married there itself and then come to India :P

Bachelor-a travel pannatheengappa, Appadi panna, bachelor-ave thirumba vaanga. Then fix your marriage :)

Rush outs!!!

When boarding my office bus during morning hours, i see my colleagues rushing in to the bus and rushing to get down from the bus.

I can understand the reason behind rushing to board the bus but why during getting down ???

All of my bus colleagues...those standing people, sitting gentlemen & ladies, sleeping beauties (while getting down), pusthaka puzhukkal, music lovers, mobile talkers, bird watchers... everybody will have this conscious sense to rush out when the bus reaches office.

Dear my bus colleague, can you please tell me the reason behind this?

I can hear some voices saying that "nee mattum romba ozhunga?". Me too have done the same mistake today, thats y this post.

It is one of the most long awaited flight service. This came as the new year gift to Trichians.
What a way to start my blog too!!! :)

Currently the ticket costs Rs. 2500 one way including the taxes, expecting the reduction soon.

Here after you can land in Trichy directly after you return from onsite :)
